Górnik Zabrze celebrates today the 83rd birthday of Henryk Latocha, a former outstanding defender of the club who won four Polish championships and five national cups with the team. Latocha, born on June 8, 1943, in Bieruń, began his football career at Unia Bieruń Stary before joining Górnik Zabrze in 1965. His talent was quickly recognized by the club's officials, leading to his debut in 1966 in a match against Szombierki.

At Górnik Zabrze, Latocha became a key player in the defense, and his skills in marking opponents, such as George Best, contributed to the team's success in European competitions. In 1970, he played in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, where Górnik faced Manchester City. Despite the loss, Latocha gained recognition as one of the best defenders of that era.

Throughout his career, Latocha won two doubles with Górnik Zabrze and made his debut for the Polish national team on May 1, 1968. His last match for Górnik took place on June 20, 1973, and his penultimate match was memorable as he scored his first league goal. Today, Górnik Zabrze proudly remembers the achievements of Henryk Latocha, who will forever remain in the club's history.
