Górnik Zabrze is being sold to Lukas Podolski, the former German national team player. On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the Zabrze City Council voted to sell the club. However, the city will retain a golden share, which means that the local government will still have a representative on the club's supervisory board. Lukas Podolski already owned 8.3% of Górnik Zabrze's shares. The price that LP Holding GmBH will pay for the acquisition of 86% of the shares is nearly 4 million zlotys. City President Kamil Żbikowski said that privatization was the only way out of the situation. The local government cannot be involved in running a sports business at this level. We have worked out a compromise. Lukas Podolski and his people are professionals. We had to secure all risks. This is a historic moment for Górnik and the city. Górnik Zabrze is now in the hands of Lukas Podolski, who has the opportunity to build the club according to his vision. In July 2021, Lukas Podolski joined Górnik Zabrze. Now he is its owner. The transaction is expected to be finalized on Thursday, May 21 at the Górnik stadium. This will be the first private owner of the Zabrze club since the time of TU Allianz Polska. The privatization agreement includes, among other things, the capitalization of the club by the new owner within three years in the amount of approximately 12.5 million zlotys, which allowed the purchase price of the shares to be reduced.
